
Sweet & Sassy: The boat is owned by Jim Brinkley and piloted by Mike "Rocket" Schovanec of Tyler, Texas. The hull is a 1993 Allison XR2001 Drag, powered by a Stock 2.5 Mercury, Built by "JSRE". Boat and team sponsors include Buggies Unlimited "Worlds largest supplier of Golf cart gear", JSRE "Jay Smith Racing Engines" and MGM Custom Homes of Tyler.
"Sweet and Sassy" is raced in SDBA's M/E class (10 second bracket). 2005 was Mike & Jim's first year racing "Sassy" with SDBA. They raced all seven races offered by SDBA, and finished 8th in the points out of 28 boats. "Sassy" has ran over 110 mph in the 1/4 mile, but runs around 105mph to stay in the bracket of 10.000 seconds.
"Sassy" was one of the only 10 boats chosen to be shown at the Ft. Worth stockyards In June of 2005, at SDBA's "Cowtown Nationals Show and Shine". Sweet and Sassy was the ONLY outboard asked to participate in the show.
Owner Jim Brinkley: JIm Started racing boats with SDBA back in the early 80's. In the late 80's Jim raced with Red Hindman and a Mod VP boat, until 1990 they were US-1 APBA champions in 1990.
In 1991 Brad Colins Built jim a Mod VP boat that James Cheatum drove one year, and Jerry Ditiz drove it after that, which allowed them to win the Havasu Classic in 1992.
Jim likes were we are with SDBA and Bracket racing in M/E.
Pilot Mike "Rocket" Schovanec: Mike started Drag boat racing with the Outlaw drag boat club in 1996 in a 21' Liberator with a 245hp merc. In 1997 Mike raced this boat with DSRA, then when DSRA made the change to ODBA Mike bought a new STV with a 2.5 Mrcury and raced that until 2002.
In 2003 Mike started racing this boat with SDBA in the RR-1 class.
In 2005 Mike made the decision to start driving "Sweet and Sassy" in SDBA's M/E class. Mike currently serves as the "Outboard rep" for SDBA.
